The core of the system is the Wirepas Mesh protocol, a decentralized mesh wireless communication protocol designed for high reliability, unlimited scale, and energy efficiency.
Decentralized Intelligence and Network Formation
The network operates without any centralized control mechanisms; all intelligence is embedded within the devices (nodes) themselves.
- Autonomy: Each device autonomously selects its role, maintains connections, and optimizes its routing paths based on its local environment
- Routing: Every device is capable of routing data using cost-based routing, finding the most optimal route back to the gateway
- Components: The system consists of EverTags (nodes), configured as either asset tags or static Anchors, with Gateways acting as bridges
Reliability and Operational Modes

- Self-Healing: If a node fails or a gateway breaks down, remaining devices automatically re-organize and find alternate routes
- Packet Reliability: Data exchange is highly reliable with point-to-point messaging, acknowledgment, and automatic re-transmissions
- Low Energy Mode (LE): Designed for ultra-low power consumption, allowing even routers to be battery-operated with 5-10 year battery life
- Low Latency Mode (LL): Intended for faster data transmission and higher throughput, typically used for mains-powered devices
